English in the multilingual classroom

Introduction

This course will introduce you to multilingualism and what it means. You’ll learn how to make your classroom and teaching multilingual so that your learners can learn to celebrate and use many languages in the real world.

About the course

'English in the multilingual classroom' is a twelve-hour self-study training course, which is divided into three-hour units.

  • Engaging and interactive content to help you learn and develop your teaching skills at your own pace.
  • Real-time up-to-date insight, resources and innovative ideas for you to try out and engaging discussions taking place in a dedicated community of course participants.
  • Live events with your course tutor and language teaching experts
     
Module 1: The benefits of multilingualism

This module will introduce you to what multilingualism is and explore what it means to you as a teacher in a multilingual class. 

Module 2: Multilingualism in practice

This module will help you develop an understanding of multilingualism in elementary education and the benefits of developing and promoting it.

Module 3: Developing multilingual learners

In this module, you will learn to integrate multilingualism within your classroom tasks and activities and plan your English lessons with a focus on integrating multilingualism.


Participant workbook

All course participants will receive a link to download a Participant Workbook, which they can use during the course to reflect on their learning and access additional resources.

I can't register for the course

Please make sure you have created a free TeachingEnglish account or that you are logged in to your existing account. If registration is available, you will see instructions for 'How do I register for this course?' at the top of this page. If registration is not available, you will see the message 'This course is not available for registration'.

I can't access the course. I am logged in to my account, but when I click or tap 'My courses' from MY PORTFOLIO I just go to my profile page

Check that you are not logged into your TeachingEnglish account on a different device or browser. Log out of your account on all devices and browsers, and log in again. Click or tap 'My courses' from MY PORTFOLIO. You should be taken to your training course. If you still can't access your course, log out, clear the cache on your browser and log in again.

I can't get my certificate

Certificates are available to participants who complete 100% of the course material. To access your certificate, go to the course platform where you have done your training. Click or tap 'My awards'. If you have completed 100% of the course, your certificate should be available to download.

The name on my certificate is wrong

On the course platform where you access your training, please use the 'Help' button to request a new certificate. Names on certificates are taken from your personal details in your free TeachingEnglish account. To change your name, click or tap on your name to edit your profile. Update the details on your profile page and save the new details.

To change the name on the certificate, you need to follow these instructions:

On the course platform where you access your training, please use the 'Help' button to request a new certificate. Names on certificates are taken from your personal details in your free TeachingEnglish account. To change your name, click or tap on your name to edit your profile. Update the details on your profile page and save the new details.

If you have successfully completed the course, your certificate should appear on the course website, under "My awards". If you are having problems accessing it, please use the orange "Help" button on the bottom right of the screen to contact the course administrators.

I've just checked your profile and yes, you are enrolled in the course. To access the modules, make sure you are logged in to your TeachingEnglish account. You should see the "MY PORTFOLIO" tab in the top left of the screen. Click on that, and then on "My courses". This will take you to the course website, where you can access the course modules.

Hi.
I started this course on Friday, I've finished Module 1 and 2, I've also done half of module 3 but now i don't have access to course anymore cause its a not on my portfolio or my courses.

Though enrolled into the course "english in the multilingual classroom", I am now unable to locate the my course options. It seems like I have been disenrolled from the course. I had already completed an entire section of the course. Requesting assistance at the earliest

Hello
I started the course but couldn't access it anymore. I have completed Module 1 and stated the second, but now its not available anymore on my Portfolio or My courses.

We are currently investigating this issue and why the course might have disappeared from some people's "My courses" tab. In the meantime can you try the following:

1. Use the "Help" button on the course platform to report this issue

2. Try logging out of your TeachingEnglish account, and logging back in again to access "My courses"?

Please see the advice given to other commenters:

1. Try logging out of your TeachingEnglish account, and logging back in again to access "My courses" below 'MY PORTFOLIO' in the top menu bar. This will take you to the training platform

2. From the training platform here: https://open.teachingenglish.org.uk/Home/Dashboard go to ‘My Learning’ > ‘My Courses’

From there you should be able to see the course you have enrolled on.
